Club Meetings

Before the transistor ushered in the era of "solid state", there was "hollow state".  Vacuum tubes have been with us for over 100 years and are still used for high-powered  radio frequency amplifiers from VLF to microwaves, in medical imaging, and in niche applications for music production and playback. Many hams still build homebrew projects utilizing vacuum tubes.  Imagine, however, the challange of homebrewing your own TUBES from scratch!  Join us for a video presentation of a ham doing just that.

On Good Friday in 1964 a massive, magnitude 9.2 earthquake hit Alaska, causing widespread destruction and severely testing the capabilities of emergency responders.  Civil Defense and amateur radio operators were among the first to answer the call to action.  Join us for a program on the Great Alaskan Earthquake.

The next meeting of the Fulton Amateur Radio Club will be on Wednesday, November 19 at 7 pm.  Note that we're meeting on the THIRD Wednesday of the month in deference to Thanksgiving.  We'll share our meeting with Oswego County RACES on their normal meeting night.  Due to time constraints there will be no program offered this month.

This year the ARRL has been celebrating its Centennial. No such celebration would be complete without a nod to the man most responsible for its creation and early survival. Join us for a program on “The Old Man” himself, Hiram Percy Maxim, W1AW.

In May of 2014 WJ2O, N2ZN and AI2N traveled to the Caribbean Island of Bonaire.  They spent a week touring the island and operating from PJ4.   Join us for a program on Bonaire presented by Redd, AI2N.

This year the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for amateur radio, celebrates 100 years of "Advancing the Art and Science of Radio." As part of its Centennial celebration, the ARRL has produced a video, "ARRL at 100 -- A Century of Ham Radio," which explains the League's history and mission over the past century. Ben, AK2X, will present the video for this month's program. Please join us!

If one is asked to name famous inventors who contributed to the development of modern radio communications Edwin Armstong's name may not come immediately to mind.  Yet he invented virtually -all- of the technology that moved us beyond spark-gap transmitters and crystal detector receivers.  Join us for a program on the life, inventions and travails of Edwin Armstrong.

Special Event Stations are organized to help commemorate historical occasions or other special events. Special Event Stations are a great opportunity to gain publicity for both the entity served and the Radio Club operating the SES.  AND many special event stations provide a special QSL card or certificate.  Join us for a program on Special Event Stations.
